How to Roll a Joint in 5 Simple Steps

Roll a Joint

Fancy vaporizers and edibles are all well and good, but any self-respecting weed smoker should know how to roll a joint. Unfortunately, rolling a joint requires a certain amount of finesse, and many smokers give up before mastering it

The good news is that it isn’t actually that complicated. This article shows how to roll a joint properly in 5 easy steps.

1. Grind Your Cannabis

If you want to roll the perfect marijuana joint, the first step is to grind up the buds. Well-ground bud is essential as it ensures your joint will burn cleanly and evenly. It also helps to make sure that your rolling paper won’t rip as you roll the joint.

The best way to grind your cannabis is to use a dedicated weed grinder. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cheap grinders out there that won’t do a good job. This means it’s worth taking the time to find one with good reviews.

These benefits are associated with using a high-quality marijuana grinder.

2. Make a Filter

The next step in the process is to make a filter. There are various approaches to making a filter, but basically, you want to roll a rectangular piece of thin cardboard into a cylinder shape.

The filter should be rolled in such as way that it prevents stray bits of flower from passing through it. One method is to create a “Z” shape inside the cylinder.

Remember that the size of the filter determines the size of the joint, so make sure you plan accordingly. Another thing to bear in mind is that conventional cigarette filters are not suitable for joints as they filter out THC.

3. Fill the Paper

Put a fresh, high-quality rolling paper on something like a tray or magazine. This will enable you to catch any of the excess weed. Next, drop the freshly ground cannabis along the crease of the rolling paper.

Also, make sure that you don’t forget to put the filter in, or you’ll have a hard time smoking the joint.

4. Roll the Joint

Now, this is the tricky part, so don’t be frustrated if you can’t get it right the first time. Grab the cannabis-filled paper at both ends and use your thumbs and forefingers to pinch the tops of the paper.

Then rub your fingers together in a way the causes the paper to go up and down. In doing this, you’ll notice that it starts to compact the buds into a cylindrical shape.

Once the bud is all rolled up, you’re ready to tuck the unglued side of the paper around the cannabis and filter.

It’s worth checking out some videos on how this process is done – it can take a lot of finesse to get this move right.

5. Seal the Joint

Finally, you’re ready to seal the joint shut. Thankfully this is nowhere near as hard as the previous step. Simply lick the gummed part of the paper and seal the joint – just how you would seal an envelope.

Tap the filter end against a solid surface to help the bud properly settle in tightly, and finally twist up the excess paper at the end.
