Approximately 9 million Americans currently vape on a regular basis. Are you part of this group?

Whether you’re new to vaping or are a seasoned pro, have you ever thought about sharing vape photos on social media?

Vape photography gives you an opportunity to show off your skills and promote the benefits of vaping over smoking.

Not sure how to capture great vape photos? Keep reading.

Listed below are some tips that will help you take some great vape selfies and become a smoke photography pro.

Get the Right Equipment

It doesn’t matter why you want to start taking vape selfies.

Perhaps you want to share how vaping helped you quit smoking. Perhaps you just like the way they look. Whatever your reason, you need to make sure you have the right equipment if you want to take great selfies.

The following are some basic pieces of equipment you’ll need to get the perfect shot:

  • Smartphone with a high-quality camera or a DSLR camera
  • An off-camera flash
  • A reflector (this makes sure that light hits the vapor from every angle)
  • Tripod or selfie stick (if you don’t want to deal with holding your phone or camera)
  • A vape and e-juice (how are you supposed to take a vape selfie without these?)

You may also want a piece of fabric (ideally a dark-colored fabric) that can act as a backdrop for your pictures. It’s not necessary, but it can help to up the quality a bit.

Get the Proper Set-Up

It’ll take some time to set the stage for a proper vape selfie. In order to get a great shot, you’ll need to be patient and willing to set everything up beforehand.

Make sure that no light is spilling into the background — this will make the vapor less prominent.

If you’re not using a dark backdrop, make sure your background is at least free from clutter or distractions. Don’t take your vape selfies in your messy bedroom (unless that’s a look that you really like).

When you’re first getting started, set the wireless flash up about two or three feet away from you and position the reflector so it’s opposite the flash. Your camera ought to be about two to four feet away from you as well.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with the position of your equipment, either. It will take a few tries for you to get the perfect setup for your selfies.

Know Your Camera

Make sure you’re familiar with and confident in your camera (whether it’s a DSLR, the camera on your smartphone, or something else).

Practice using all the different features before you set up your photo shoot. That way, you’ll be able to spend less time guessing and more time posing.

Look Up at the Camera

Many people find that the best angle for selfies is to look up at the camera.

This is, generally speaking, a more flattering angle than taking the photo head-on or from below.

While you’re looking up at the camera, raise your eyebrows slightly to make your eyes appear a bit wider.

Work on Your Posture

Your posture can make or break a selfie. It helps to extend the head away from the neck. This lengthens your neck and makes your jawline more pronounced.

Press your shoulders down and away from your ears, too. This will help you look more relaxed and confident in front of the camera.

Use the Right Vape

In order to get great vape selfies, you need to make sure you’re using a high-quality vape.

After all, the better your vape is, the more vapor you’re going to produce, right?

Whether you use a Kanger Subox Mini C or the Joyetech Atopack Dolphin, make sure you spend some time practicing with your vape, too.

This will help you make sure you’re getting the best vape clouds in all of your pictures.

Take Lots of Photos

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to get a top-notch, Instagram-worthy vape selfie with the first click of your phone or camera.

In reality, it’ll probably take dozens of tries (if not more) for you to get a selfie that you love and want to share.

Take lots of photos during your vape selfie photoshoot so that you have lots of options to choose from. Try out different poses and angles while you’re at it, too.

This will help you figure out what works best, and you won’t have to spend as much time on these photos in the future.

Don’t be Afraid to Crop

If you’re not loving the backdrop of your photos, don’t be afraid to crop and zoom in on the vape cloud.

Cropping, as long as it’s done properly, can make your photos more interesting and eye-catching.

Do a Little Editing at the End

In addition to cropping, there’s nothing wrong with editing photos a little more before you share them online or on social media. Everyone does it.

When done well, photo editing helps to give your images a little something extra and make them stand out from the other vape photos out there.

When it comes to editing your vape selfies, remember some of these basic editing tips:

  • Remember the Rule of Thirds
  • Eliminate distractions
  • Balance out the colors
  • Remember to adjust the brightness

Remember, too, that less is more. Editing is meant to enhance your images. The goal shouldn’t be to totally change them.
